Change for the better happens when people stand together and demand it.
Scotland needs that change. Too many of us are being cut off from life's essentials. Too many are frightened of what the future will bring. Too many of us are feeling tired, angry, isolated, and disillusioned. Too many are going hungry, or are without a home, or sacrificing meals for families, dreading winter due to heating costs, or struggling to get by on wages that don’t cover their household costs.
But from Shetland to Selkirk, and from Argyll to Angus, we all want similar things. A warm, safe place to call home. A decent income that at least covers the essentials. Healthcare when we need it. Good schools for our children. Buses and trains that get us where we need to go. Those of us who are elderly, ill or disabled getting the right support and care to live with dignity and respect.
Scotland Demands Better is our chance to come together and demand that politicians make the changes we need for a society where every household can thrive and prosper.
- We demand better jobs for everyone who needs one, with fair conditions and wages that pay the bills.
- We demand better investment for life's essentials - like affordable homes, good public transport, a thriving natural environment, and strong public services.
- We demand better social security so that all of us have a foundation for the future.
On the day
Scotland Demands Better is about people. We’re inviting community and voluntary organisations, campaign groups, youth groups, faith groups, trade unions, trades councils, charities, and individuals. Most of all we want to see you there. Bring along a friend or family member or even someone you work with - this is a march for all of us.
We’re inviting political leaders to come to listen to what people have to say, but you won’t hear them making any speeches. We’re non-partisan.
We want people to take hope, comfort, and inspiration from marching alongside thousands of others who want a better Scotland. We are not alone – and when we work together, we can make real change. That’s why people across Scotland will be demanding better from all politicians in both parliaments and all councils when we march on 25 October.
We will meet at the Scottish Parliament and march up the Royal Mile and along George IV Bridge to The Meadows
